Rules of the Convention
1. All NipponCon Attendees who are not McDaniel Students are required to wear their wristbands at all times. This is so Campus Safety can make sure they are aware of who the convention guests are and to monitor ages for certain panels.
2. Illegal drugs are prohibited at NipponCon. If you are caught with any, local police and Campus Safety will be notified
3. No violence will be tolerated.
4. Shoes are required within the convention area and cosplays a required to cover the person in order to keep NipponCon a family friendly event.
5. NipponCon will occur with in certain buildings on campus. Con attendees who are not McDaniel Students should remain within these buildings to limit the disruption to other campus guests and residents.
6. Do not handle or move convention property, including but not limited to tables, dividers, televisions, game systems, etc.
7. Refrain from unwanted physical contact of others. Ask before hugging or glomping con attendees.
8. Do not enter the convention buildings before or after the set con hours.
9. If the NipponCon staff or the Campus Safety personnel deems your behavior to be inappropriate or disruptive, we reserve the right to ask you to leave.
10. Minors At NipponCon
NipponCon asks that attendees under the age of 16 be accompanied by a parent or guardian within their group.
Certain Panels will be classified at 16+ or 18+ to keep NipponCon a family friendly environment. Wristbands will be color coded to show age and if you do not have ID or are not very clearly over the age of 18, you will receive the 16 and under wristband.
11. Cameras and Photography
With the exception of video screening rooms, most areas of NipponCon allow photography, unless otherwise specified. Additionally, there are some photo guidelines we request that attendees follow:
Do not harass guests or attendees for photos. It is proper procedure to first ask if you may take a photo. If they decline, please respect their request.
11. Weapons & Cosplay Props
Please use common sense when you think of bringing something to the convention. If you would not take your prop into public, please do not bring it to the con. Some general rules to keep in mind:
All props and weapons are subject to approval by NipponCon Staff. We may ask to see your prop or weapon at the Registration desk. Please understand that we do this for the safety of all our attendees, and cooperate accordingly.
The maximum prop size is three feet (3') in any direction.
Misuse of your prop, by swinging it or endangering others with it, will result in removal of the prop
Types of Weapons and Props Allowed
Wooden swords including boken, bo sticks, and shinai.
Anything made of paper mache or other material that is not dangerous to others (e.g. has no sharp edges or parts sticking out)
Types of Weapons and Props that are Prohibited
Any weapon that can shoot a projectile, or could in the past, will not be permitted. Prohibited examples include, but are not limited to:
Airsoft guns - Even if it has been disabled or modified
Water guns/pistols/rifles/blasters
BB/Pellet guns
Crossbows, bows, dart guns, or blow guns
Weapons that appear to be real
Live steel; Live steel is defined as any object made of metal that is capable of taking an edge, whether or not the object is actually sharp, and whether or not the object is sheathed.
Nunchaku.
Paddles
Explosives and Chemicals
Props, resin casts, and toys simulating the appearance of such items will be allowed only if they:
Are easily identifiable as toys or props (for example, no black guns will be permitted)
Have no moving parts
AND are marked with a non-removable orange tip
If your cosplay includes something that was not mentioned in the rules and you are not sure if it would be allowed, feel free to contact us! We will be happy to answer any questions.
KEEP IN MIND: REPEATED VIOLATIONS OF ANY OF THESE RULES WILL BE CAUSE FOR US TO ASK YOU TO LEAVE.
